Wake Forest Singers

Note: the Wake Forest Singers are currently on hiatus.

The idea to start a SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) adult community chorus was discussed for several years before two former ARTS Wake Forest Board Members, Ginger Graves and Gail Joyner, actually put the wheels in motion. The first concert was March, 1993, and now, twenty-five years later, the Wake Forest Singers celebrate their 25th anniversary!

The purpose of the chorus is, of course, to perform and entertain, but also to learn about different styles of choral music from different locations and time periods. Concerts have featured Broadway Show Tunes, folk songs from other countries, Americana, patriotic melodies, seasonal and inspirational pieces, just to name a few. As a matter of fact, a recent concert featured just arrangements by Jay Althouse. and his wife Sally Albrecht. The major concert in the Spring usually has a cultural theme and often incorporates dancers, instrumentalists such as bag pipes an trumpeters and other artists. Shorter performances are usually connected to community events, such as the Fourth of July Fireworks show, the Town Tree Lighting at Christmas, and Grand Opening celebrations at the Whistler’s Convention at Louisburg College.

Auditions are not required for participants. The chorus is open to any adult who wants to and can sing. There is no charge or fee to participate, but singers are encouraged to support activities thru membership in ARTS Wake Forest.  Like all non-profit organizations, the Singers are always in need of sponsors and they welcome contributions which can go to buy more music or pay performers or musicians.

The group size has ranged from 12 to 35 Singers over the last 20 years.
