Draw on the Street Chalk Art Contest

ARTS Wake Forest and the Wake Forest, NC Optimist Club will present Draw on the Street, a Chalk Art Contest, on South White Street during the Dirt Day Festival on April 6, 2019. The contest will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with prizes awarded at 2:30 p.m.

The Draw on the Street Chalk Art Contest theme is “Celebrate Spring.” It is open to area Youth and Family teams comprised of 2-4 individuals. Youth teams consist of students 18 and under and must be accompanied by an adult teacher or parent who is encouraged to participate. Family Teams are comprised of family members of any age including at least one adult.

Registration is FREE and must be complete by March 29. Participants can register by emailing Tanya Johnson, ARTS Wake Forest’s Youth Programs Director. Provide Tanya with your team member names. For Youth Teams also provide name of the adult teacher or parent who will accompany the team.

All those who register by March 29 will be provided with contest rules and details for the day.

Teams should check-in between 10:00 and 10:45 a.m. on the day of the event at the ARTS Wake Forest booth in front of the Depot Parking lot along South White Street. 

Upon check-in at the ARTS Wake Forest booth, each team will be assigned a 4×4’ space along South White Street which will be closed to traffic during the Dirt Day Festival. Teams will be given a box of pastel chalk generously provided by Jerry’s Artarama.

Teams will have until 2:00 p.m. to complete their chalk drawings.

Best in Show, Most Original, and Best Technique, and People’s Choice awards will be given. Judges will determine the winners, except for the People’s Choice which will be determined by Dirt Day attendees who complete a paper ballot.

Judges will view the chalk drawing at 2 p.m. to determine winners and awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m. Dirt Day ends at 3 p.m. when everyone must be off of South White Street which will be opening back up to traffic.
